Vivo X60 Pro Plus Smartphone Review

The main difference between Vivo X60 Pro + is a set of cameras from the well-known company Zeiss. All the sensors installed here have high resolution, while the ultra-wide-angle lens even has a gimbal. The processor is also the most powerful of the existing ones – Snapdragon 888, and only a little confused is the not too high battery capacity.

The device turned out to be very interesting. Therefore, I invite you to read my review.

Packaging and unpacking

The Vivo X60 Pro Plus comes in the same stylish blue box as the regular X60 Pro. The package shows the camera lens, and below is the model name. It also indicates that the optics manufacturer is Zeiss.

Inside is an impressive set of accessories by today’s standards:

  • Headphone headset
  • USB-A to USB-C cable
  • Charger 55W
  • USB-C to 3.5mm adapter
  • Transparent protective case
  • Warranty and documentation for use.

Design and appearance

The appearance of the Vivo X60 Pro + is truly unique. The back cover is covered with blue eco-leather, and the camera module is huge. In addition to the sensors, the Zeiss and T * logos are applied to the protective glass of the lens. The latter means that the lenses have an anti-reflective coating.

There are only two body colors: blue and orange. The first looks much nicer, although fans of bright designs will probably prefer the second. In any case, eco-leather contributes to a comfortable grip and does not slip in the hands, almost no prints and dirt remain on it.

The side frames of the X60 Pro Plus are made of aluminum. The power button is located on the right and is easy to reach with your thumb. The volume keys are located a little higher. On the underside, you will find a slot for two nano-SIM cards, which has no room for a microSD. Nearby are the speaker, USB-C, and the main microphone. On the upper side, there is another microphone, as well as the Professional Photography lettering.

The sides of the display are rounded, which makes the X60 Pro + look like many other flagships. The bezels around the screen are minimal. The hole for the front camera is not the smallest one, it is at the top, in the middle. Unfortunately, the upper earpiece does not form a stereo pair with the main one.

The dimensions of the device are 15.9 x 7.3 x 0.9 cm, which is a few millimeters less than competitors, like the OnePlus 9 Pro or Mi 11. The weight of the gadget – 191 grams, is also slightly lighter than competitors, although it is difficult to feel this difference without weights.

Smartphone screen

The X60 Pro Plus has the same screen as the Vivo X60 Pro – 6.56-inch AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution.

The brightness reaches 816 nits in automatic mode and in sunlight, with a manual slider it can be raised to 477 nits. The lowest possible value is 2.0 nits. There are also three color profiles with sliders to adjust the temperature.

By default, the “Standard” mode is active, the shades of which are closer to blue, although it is easy to make them warmer on your own. The “Professional” profile does not need to change anything, the colors and shades are almost perfectly calibrated in accordance with the sRGB space. In “Vivid” mode, the hues are more saturated.

The Vivo X60 Pro + also has HDR10 + support for watching high-quality content on YouTube or Netflix. The refresh rate can be set to 60 Hz or 120 Hz. Automatic mode is also available to switch between these two values. In it, 120 Hz will turn on only when you touch the display, although in browsers it always switches to 60 Hz.

X60 Pro Plus Cameras

In the Vivo X60 Pro Plus, we get a versatile set of four cameras on the back cover. Vivo often installs gimbal gimbals in their smartphones – not without it here. The curious thing is that it works with an ultra-wide-angle camera and not the main one.

The main sensor is Samsung S5KGN1 here with a resolution of 50 MP. The 48MP IMX598 is used as ultra-wide-angle optics. There are also two telephoto lenses (32MP and 8MP) when the front camera has a 32MP resolution.

The application for shooting is standard here, I will separately note the Pro mode, where you can set many settings yourself. There is a choice of settings for ISO (50-3200), shutter speed (1/12000 – 32 s), white balance, focal length, and exposure compensation.

The quality of the photos corresponds to the level of the flagships. The colors are very rich and the dynamic range is huge – in this regard, the X60 Pro + is not inferior to the best smartphones.

Telephoto lenses turn out to be quite useful, the shorter one has 8MP resolution, and even with 2x zooms the results look very good. There is also a 5x zoom periscope camera with excellent detail, which allows you to take clear photos of even very distant objects.

The X60 Pro Plus ultra-wide-angle lens has a tendency towards green tones. There are no complaints about detail and saturation, however, I would like the color gamut to match the main sensor. On the other hand, this wide-angle camera can act as a macro lens, as it is able to focus on very close objects.

The quality of pictures in low light is also beyond praise. Colors remain saturated, detail is high, and there is almost no noise. And this is even without activating Night Mode. With it, the results are even better, this applies to both the main and ultra-wide-angle sensors.

The front camera of the Vivo X60 Pro + shoots in much the same way as the X60 Pro. Results are saved in 32-megapixel resolution, so the detail remains higher. However, colors do not come out as saturated as the main cameras.

This smartphone can shoot video in quality up to 8K / 30 fps with the main lens. The ultra-wide-angle camera is capped at 4K / 60 fps, while telephoto lenses are capped at 1080p / 30 fps. Optical stabilization is available for all sensors. The ultra-wide-angle has an additional gimbal that successfully removes any shake when shooting.

Software

Vivo X60 Pro Plus runs on the Android 11 operating system with Funtouch 11 shell.

The interface is quite different from pure Android, although many elements remain standard. Among them: the application drawer, the task manager, icons in the notification bar, and the notifications themselves. A convenient icon for enabling “Auto-Brightness” has appeared near the brightness slider.

Vivo X60 Pro Plus Smartphone Review

As with Android 11, notifications are grouped into categories. You can check their history if you missed something. There is a built-in screen recording, “Bubbles” for instant messengers, and more convenient issuance of permissions. Calling and messaging apps in Vivo have kept their own. the manager is still there for clearing the cache, scanning for viruses, and other optimization tasks.

The system in the X60 Pro + allows you to customize many interface elements, including the always-on display mode. There is also a function to backlight the sides of the screen when receiving notifications. This feature has already been implemented on some Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi smartphones. However, here you can customize not only the style but also the duration of the backlight, this is a great replacement for the LED indicator.

Ultra Game Mode will be useful for gamers, as it allows you to block notifications and make other settings. However, its most interesting option is to turn off the screen during gameplay. In some turn-based strategy games and online games, this is a convenient solution.

Component performance

Since the Vivo X60 Pro + is the main model in the lineup, the processor is the corresponding Snapdragon 888. The new chipset from Qualcomm is made using a 5nm process technology, it has eight cores and an integrated 5G modem.

There are two builds of the X60 Pro Plus – with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal UFS 3.1 storage, as well as a 12 / 256GB version. I tested and reviewed the second one. In addition to regular RAM, there is also virtual swap technology. For her, 3 GB of internal storage is allocated for less important tasks, so you will have faster access to many applications.

benchmarks, the X60 Pro + performs excellently. In Geekbench 5, the device scores 1143/3749 points, which is better than all competitors, including the Asus ROG Phone 5 and OnePlus 9 Pro. The situation is the same in AnTuTu 8, where the Vivo model has 735 thousand points.

Everything is fine with graphics performance. In the GFX Manhattan ES 3.1 (offscreen 1080p) test, the X60 Pro + shows a result of 119 fps, which is higher only for the gaming Asus ROG Phone 5 – 122 fps.

Sound quality

Although the Vivo X60 Pro Plus is the flagship, there is no stereo sound here. Vivo doesn’t add stereo speakers to their smartphones very often. So there is one transducer on the bottom side.

The volume, although good, is inferior to many competitors. The quality is also far from ideal, the smartphone sounds nicer than the X60 Pro but worse than other models in the segment. I expected more from the X60 Pro +.

Battery autonomy

The Vivo X60 Pro + has a modest 4200 mAh battery, which is one of the lowest among flagships.

However, the smartphone has no problems with battery life. The device has enough energy for 12 hours of web surfing or 19 hours of watching videos. This is better than the Xiaomi Mi 11 and is only slightly inferior to the Samsung Galaxy S21 +.

The X60 Pro Plus comes bundled with a 55W Super FlashCharge 2.0 fast charger. In just half an hour, it will restore 85% of its energy, when a full charge takes 40 minutes – this is an excellent result.

Vivo X60 Pro Plus cost and alternatives

Now you can buy Vivo X60 Pro + on AliExpress at a price of 72 thousand rubles. There are also some excellent models in this segment from OnePlus, Samsung, and others.

If you want similarly powerful cameras, take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. Of course, it costs more, and the ultra-wide-angle camera does not compare with the X60 Pro +, but the overall quality of the shooting will be just as good. At the same time, there is IP protection and stereo speakers, and the battery life is slightly higher.

The latest  OnePlus 9 Pro will cost about the same, and it also has advantages. The smartphone boasts a higher display resolution, stereo sound, and water resistance. However, alas, the quality of the cameras will not be as high.

There is also a decent Oppo Find X3 Pro. We get better display and battery life. Find has excellent cameras, however, the maximum optical zoom is weaker, and overall the X60 Pro Plus seems to be the preferred choice

Outcome

The Vivo X60 Pro Plus is great in almost everything. You may be missing stereo speakers or water resistance, but otherwise, this is one of the best flagship smartphones around.

If cameras are most important to you, then in the segment of up to 100 thousand rubles you will not find a more successful model at all. We also get an excellent display and the most powerful hardware, and battery life is not worse than that of competitors.
