Design and ergonomics

The design of the OPPO Reno 4 Pro is not much different from the previous model. The smartphone is also similar to its older brother, OPPO Find X2. The front is a rounded screen with a cutout in the corner, the lid has beveled edges and is made of glass. Scratch-resistant aluminum side frame.

I really like the design of the Reno 4 Pro, especially the back panel, which has a special print that shimmers in the light. Of course, this is not a benchmark, as in Xperia smartphones, but there are still strengths.

Oppo Reno4 Pro Review of the Smartphone

By the way, I asked OPPO representatives how they managed to make such a thin phone and got an answer.

Despite the powerful characteristics, one of the most important parameters for us has always been and remains the design of our smartphones and, as a result, the convenience of their use. For example, in Reno4 Pro we introduced 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging, but at the same time, due to careful selection of the component base of the mainboard and improvement of its layout, we also managed to change the dimensions of the battery – to make it 5 mm longer and thinner.

At the same time, the Reno4 Pro also uses a flexible AMOLED matrix with a thickness of only 0.3mm, which supports a refresh rate of 90 Hz and allows you to achieve optimal rounding of the side edges. Thanks to these improvements, the Reno4 Pro is 0.1mm thinner than the previous generation Reno and weighs just 172g, ”comments OPPO Product Manager Maxim Dyachin.

Oppo Reno4 Pro Review of the Smartphone Display

The display quality has not changed compared to the previous model and the characteristics have remained the same. So we have a 6.5 ″ screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. The matrix is made using AMOLED technology (2400×1080, 402 PPI), all of this is covered with gorilla glass 5.

Is it better compared to OPPO Reno 3 Pro? Definitely not. I was satisfied with the quality of the matrix in the previous model. OPPO Reno 4 Pro is also happy with everything. The colors are juicy and contrasting, the viewing angles are maximum, and the stock of brightness is enough for comfortable outdoor use.

I am very glad that they decided to leave the refresh rate at 90 Hz because it seems to me that 120 Hz is redundant, even though many flagships cannot draw a graphical interface at 120 fps.

Software

It’s no secret that OPPO smartphones are equipped with their own ColorOS shell, which is based on Android, in this case, the tenth version. About what this firmware looks like and what it can do, I have already told you many times. It has all the features you need, just like other Android smartphones. The shell looks interesting, in my opinion, it is the most beautiful to date, second only to Android on the Google Pixel.

Oppo Reno4 Pro Review of the Smartphone Performance

The power reserve of the Snapdragon 765G is actually surprising, although it is not a new platform, it continues to pull all the games and heavy applications with a bang. For the entire time of the test, there was not a hint of friezes or lags.

The smartphone works with lightning speed, and the work on polishing the system was significant. The only thing is that the memory type is already outdated today. It’s time to install permanent memory of the UFS 3.0 standard, and not UFS 2.1 since the write speed is still slow for a smartphone for 60 thousand rubles.

Camera

OPPO Reno 4 Pro has as many as four cameras, it sounds very cool, especially when you find out that there is no useless macro lens. The first and main eye is a 48-megapixel IMX586 sensor with support for optical stabilization. The second module is a 12MP wide-angle IMX 708 and a 13MP SK3M5 telephoto lens.

I summarize that all three modules shoot perfectly, both day and night. The quality of the pictures, in my opinion, is on par with the OnePlus 8T. The smartphone shoots quickly, saving frames takes a split second.

I don’t really like that in photo mode during night shooting, it takes a couple of seconds to wait for the smartphone to take a frame and save. Apparently, in the usual photo mode, there is an analog of night shooting. Therefore, you will not be able to get out and quickly take a picture and put the smartphone back into your pocket, you will have to wait until the smartphone finishes shooting, otherwise, there is a possibility that the photo will not be saved.

It is worth noting since a 48-megapixel module is installed here, the smartphone shoots at 12 megapixels by default. The 48-megapixel mode is included separately, and there is also an ultra-clear function that allows you to shoot at 108 megapixels. The detailing does not improve from this, so it makes no sense to include the function at 48 megapixels and 108 megapixels.

I suggest you evaluate for yourself how OPPO Reno 4 Pro takes pictures. On my own, I can say that the frames are good, although the white balance is not always set correctly by the automatic, the detail in the 12-megapixel mode is not bad, and the colors are most often natural.

Autonomy

The battery life is currently the weak point of smartphones with displays with support for 90 Hz. Since the increased refresh rate is robust, it eats up the charge. Turning off 90 Hz is rather strange, because then why buy a smartphone with such an opportunity at all?

OPPO Reno 4 Pro lasts almost a whole day on a single charge with average use. In my same mode, the smartphone lives for about 6 hours of screen operation. In my opinion, in Reno 4 Pro, in smartphones of the Find X2 series, or in OnePlus 8T, short battery life is not a problem, since ultra-fast charging at 65W is supported.

Fully charging the smartphone takes about 30 minutes, in some cases, the smartphone can be charged in 20 minutes. Unfortunately, with 65W fast charging being installed, the manufacturer starts sacrificing wireless charging, which is very important for many people.

Musical possibilities

OPPO Reno 4 Pro is equipped with stereo speakers. The sound quality is excellent, the volume is large, the sound is not flat at all, and there are hints of bass. Of course, this is not the level of the iPhone 11 Pro, but in my opinion, the speakers are still good.

Due to the fact that there is no standard headphone jack, you have to use adapters. Regular adapters seem to spoil the sound, so if you are an audiophile, you will have to buy an adapter with a built-in DAC.

Plus or minus wireless sound is the same as everyone else. There is support for LDAC. Unfortunately, during the test, I did not have good headphones at hand to appreciate the musical possibilities, but I think that I would not have heard anything unusual.

Outcomes

OPPO Reno 4 Pro is a solid phone that can claim the title of a successful smartphone in 2020. The Reno 4 Pro has some drawbacks related to the filling, in my opinion, it could have been a newer filling. At the same time, the device is incredibly comfortable and beautiful. The phone is very fast and runs all programs at an acceptable level. The quality of the pictures with the main cameras is excellent, as well as the video recording.

But all this does not matter when you remember that a smartphone costs as much as 60 thousand rubles. For this money, you can buy any other smartphone that will take better pictures, have a more interesting filling, and may even support wireless charging.

It is completely incomprehensible to me why OPPO sets such prices for our market because OPPO Reno 4 Pro costs more than the same OnePlus 8 Pro or Galaxy S20 FE. Therefore, in our market, this smartphone will not have a problem-free future, and it seems to be the same big sales.
